From ensuring on-time delivery to addressing maintenance needs, managing a vehicle fleet can be challenging and costly. In fact, one of the biggest expenses in fleet management is the fuel used by the vehicles themselves. Vehicle fuel costs can account for up to 60% of a fleet’s total operating budget.
Although fuel efficiency may not be your daily focus, reducing fuel costs can have a significant impact on your bottom line. With the help of an integrated system like INFLEET, these cost savings are an achievable reality.
Not only can fuel savings translate into higher profits, but they can also allow for greater flexibility in meeting customer needs.
How Telematics Can Help Reduce Fuel Consumption and Average Speed: The ProSaúde Case
Telemetry systems allow you to monitor the driving patterns that drivers must follow. This factor is extremely important for reducing violations, accidents, and fuel consumption.
When a driver exceeds the speed limit, for example, the system sends an alert to the monitoring team. They contact the driver to take appropriate action.
Another possibility is to encourage drivers to use vehicles more efficiently, reducing speed and fuel consumption.
It is also possible to manage periodic maintenance, reducing corrective actions and increasing preventive measures. This results in lower vehicle depreciation over the long term and, consequently, reduced maintenance costs.
The Challenge
Seeking to better understand the situation its fleet was in, ProSaúde, one of the largest healthcare plans in the state of Bahia, faced a major problem: high fuel costs.
In addition to this issue, which in itself already negatively impacts operating costs, there were concerns regarding overloading, sudden braking and acceleration, lack of preventive maintenance, and engine idling (on average, 8.3% of the total cost).
Even with so many issues to address, ProSaúde had a goal: to reduce fuel costs by 10%.
Through qualitative meetings with the Customer Success team to better leverage the data provided by the integrated INFLEET system, ProSaúde was able to identify a 15% reduction in its fleet’s fuel consumption and a 62% reduction in above-average speed, exceeding the established goal.
The result
“We requested quotes from several other systems, but you exceeded our expectations!” – Alisson Oliveira, fleet manager at ProSaúde.
Check out the interview below between Ingrid Santana, from the Customer Success team, and Alisson Oliveira, fleet manager at ProSaúde.
Ingrid Santana – What changes have occurred in the company since using INFLEET?
Alisson Oliveira: “The company didn’t have effective control over the vehicles; we used spreadsheets. Through the telemetry you provided, we were able to gain total control of the fleet—not just location, but also maintenance costs, fuel consumption, and speed.”
IS – What has changed in your routine as a fleet manager since using INFLEET?
AO: “I joined the company as a mechanic—in fact, I’m a mechanic and work as a fleet manager, taking advantage of the opportunity provided by the ProSaúde Group. So, together with the manager here, I had access to the vehicle control spreadsheet, which only covered maintenance and fuel consumption and didn’t contain much data about the fleet.
The team didn’t have that kind of control yet, and it was through the INFLEET system—specifically Telemetry, which was something totally new to us—that we entered the data and started seeing positive results.”
IS – How do you think INFLEET has changed ProSaúde’s fleet management?
AO: “It gave me total control over the fleet’s vehicles. Today, if I want to look up any vehicle, it’s just a mouse click away. I can print a report at any time, whether to present to management or for my own use. I can check who spent what, how much was spent, which vehicle, and which driver has the best driving record.
Now we’re using the driver rankings; we’ve registered all of them and are conducting individual evaluations. Through Telemetry, we can track the driver’s destination, how their trip went, what and how many types of violations they committed, and the maximum speed they reached.
Based on this, we’ll implement improvements so they can drive more economically, practicing defensive and safe driving—for their own sake, the company’s, and other drivers on the road.

Smarter Management
A telemetry-based fleet management system provides managers with a series of reports that offer a strategic overview of what is happening with their fleet, including both vehicles and drivers.
The system also allows you to control and optimize routes, reducing travel time and making it easier to meet deadlines. All of this with just a few clicks, an intuitive interface, and access available on any device—whether from a computer or a mobile phone.
In addition to all these benefits, an intelligent fleet management system like INFLEET’s highlights your business’s commitment to the safety and quality of life of your drivers, employees, and, in turn, your suppliers, such as ProSaúde.
