How Ecoimper, a solar energy company, reduced its fleet fuel costs by 15% with INFLEET

Companies that provide waterproofing and solar energy services and use an efficient fleet management system also have notable success stories.

This is the case with Ecoimper, which aimed to reduce turnover among its fleet drivers, caused by reckless driving.

To address this, the company, with the support of fleet manager Rafael, initiated a series of meetings, during which it became clear that improvements were needed in drivers’ driving habits. As we’ve discussed here on the blog, a driver’s driving habits have a significant impact on the fleet’s fuel costs.

Therefore, understanding how drivers are driving, training them, and educating them is essential for improving efficiency and reducing costs. In April of this year, Rafael began analyzing key fleet indicators, such as events and speed. This allowed him to hold drivers accountable for improvements in their driving behavior.

Based on this analysis, Ecoimper can make a decision based on actionable data—a capability only made possible by using an integrated fleet management system like INFLEET’s. The most important factor in this decision was the ability to switch the installation and use an iButton.

What is an iButton?

The iButton is a common technology for driver identification. Each vehicle has a reader installed, and each driver receives an identifier (iButton or an RFID card). This identifier works to detect who is who, just like a badge.

When the driver holds their card near the reader, they are identified, and the reader sends this information to the vehicle tracker. The vehicle tracker then sends the driver’s name, along with the vehicle’s location and speed data, to the fleet management platform.

This way, the fleet manager will know, in real time and directly from the fleet management platform, which driver is driving each of their vehicles.

Ecoimper’s Numbers

Through the iButton, Ecoimper was able to recognize and identify each driver, understanding each one’s driving profile, making it possible to identify drivers who needed training, those who needed to improve their driving habits, and also to reward those who were driving well.

And since every action generates a reaction, between April and June of this year there was a 15% increase in vehicle fuel efficiency, which resulted in a 15% reduction in the fleet’s fuel costs.

Conclusion

To understand the real situation of a fleet, only data analysis can provide the correct answers. In Ecoimper’s case, in addition to the data, we were able to rely on the experience and insight of fleet manager Rafael and the understanding of driver profiles gained by replacing the previous device with the iButton.

All of this resulted in a reduction in the fleet’s fuel consumption—a critical factor in the current economic climate, where gasoline and diesel, even at reduced prices, still carry costs that directly impact the fleet’s finances.
